Here's my latest bit over at the Houston Press sports blog. It's more on my friend Ria and her battle to become the first female major league baseball umpire.

I've read that Ria doesn't want a fuss made over her, but I hope she knows how many people are rooting for her to make it, not just to see a woman make it to the majors, but Ria herself.
I saw her work an A game a few years ago and she did a fine job. At that game several young girls, 10-to-12 year olds, ran down to the railing to make sure they were seeing what they thought they were seeing: a girl ump!
