Just a quick note now that I'm home for a day or so...
I'll try to write some more tomorrow, as well as putting up some photos, but right now, I'm very tired, plus I'm having to watch the Texans/Colts game because I owe a post to the Houston Press on the game.
Some quick observations...
Do you know that BBC's World Service provides more NFL and college football info than CNN International does? It's always been my understanding that CNN International is partially geared toward US travelers and ex-pats. Oh well, it was fun watching this cute, blond, Brit chick and her accent giving me the score and stats from the Titans game and the Giants game.
Second, I can't comment on other customs stations in the US, but the one in Houston could really take some lessons from the Dutch. It took me 30 minutes to exit my plane, clear customs, grab my bags, and make it to my airport hotel in Amsterdam. After 30 minutes n Houston, I still had about 15 minutes to stand in line in customs before hitting my luggage. And Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam is far busier than Intercontinental in Houston.
Speaking of airports, if Houston really wants to be an international city, perhaps the airport should start going international. Every message over loud speakers, on bulletin boards, and on flight info screens, etc., at Schiphol is in Dutch and English. Houston really needs to make an effort like this.
More later...
