Mr. Fred, since you don't get the Sundance Channel, this is for you...
Elvis Costello and The Police team up for "Watching The Detectives" and "Walking On The Moon" for Costello's Sundance show, "Spectacle," which aired last night.
I had the good luck to see Elvis Costello open for The Police way back in May when they hit Houston. Sting came out to duet with Costello on "Allison," but Elvis didn't perform with the entire band.
"Spectacle" was fascinating last night. Costello interviewed the three guys solo, then together. And what makes The Police doing "Watching The Detectives" so interesting is that Stewart Copeland and Elvis Costello specifically discussed the drum fill of the song with Copeland mock accusing Costello's drummer on the song of ripping him off, then both agreeing that they had actually ripped off The Clash. We also got Sting claiming that Costello's "Allison" made "Roxanne" possible because The Police were supposed to be a punk band and punk bands didn't do songs like "Roxanne" so he didn't want to take it to the band, but then he heard "Allison" so he figured if Costello could do it, then The Police could do it.
